Contrast media for CT and R imaging have identical tissue distribution nd plasma kinetics. So the story of the early istory of contrast media for cardiac magnetic esonance (CMR) actually starts with early xperimental work with iodinated contrast meia and prototype cardiac CT scanners in the 970s. CT and MR imaging were rapidly accepted o diagnose diseases of the brain and spine. ndeed, within a few years after their introducion, these tomographic imaging techniques ad already revolutionized precision in diagnois of neurologic diseases. On the other hand, idespread adoption of these techniques for ardiac diagnosis has required about 25 years. ome of this delay in clinical application was elated to delays in technologic advances necssary for overcoming the motion of breathing nd cardiac contraction. Additionally, there as a prevailing perception in the 1970s and 980s that echocardiography and nuclear imging provided most information required from oninvasive cardiac imaging. The promise of issue characterization using CT and, espeially, MR imaging was considered either unmportant for clinical cardiology or practically nattainable. In 1977 to 1978, our research group at the niversity of California, San Diego, was

DNA Damages on Blood Cells After Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Introduction: Along with the increased use of cardiac imaging at clinics there is increased attention to the potential risks related to the methods used like magnetic resonance (MR) and it cannot be ruled out that MR can alter DNA structure. The aim of this review is to assess the impact of routine cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) scanning on DNA damages in human T lymphocytes....
متن کاملANALYTICAL STUDY OF EFFECT OF BILAYER INORGANIC AND ORGANIC COATING AROUND THE IRON OXIDE NANOPARTICLES ON MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING CONTRAST
Background & Aims: In recent years, iron oxide nanoparticles have been used in contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging for diagnosing a wide range of diseases. In order to provide biocompatibility and prevent the toxicity of the nanoparticles, using organic or inorganic coating around these nanoparticles is important for their application. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect...
متن کاملDiagnosis of Meningitis Caused by Pathogenic Microorganisms Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging: A Systematic Review
Introduction: Bacterial meningitis is an acute infectious inflammation of the protective membranes covering the brain. Its early diagnosis is vital because of its high morbidity and mortality. It is mostly diagnosed by a gold standard diagnostic tool i.e. Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF) analysis. However, it is sometimes difficult and or impossible to do this procedure and an alternative diagnostic t...
متن کاملA New Potential Contrast Agent for Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Iron Oxide-4A Nanocomposite
Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast agents have an important role to differentiate healthy and diseased tissues. Access and design new contrast agents for the optimal use of MRI are necessary. This study aims to evaluate iron oxide–4A nanocomposite ability to act as a magnetic resonance imaging contrast agent.Materials and Methods: Iron oxide–4A nanocomposite (F4A) was syn...
متن کاملAnalytical determination of the chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) contrast in molecular magnetic resonance imaging
Magnetic resonance based on molecular imaging allows tracing contrast agents thereby facilitating early diagnosis of diseases in a non-invasive fashion that enhances the soft tissue with high spatial resolution. Recently, the exchange of protons between the contrast agent and water, known as the chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) effect, has been measured by applying a suitable pulse ...
متن کاملEvaluation of tissue doppler echocardiography and T2* magnetic resonance imaging in iron load of patients with thalassemia major
Background: Iron-mediated cardiomyopathy is the main complication of thalassemia major (TM) patients. Therefore, there is an important clinical need in the early diagnosis and risk stratification of patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of tissue doppler imaging (TDI) to study cardiac iron overload in patients with TM using T2* magnetic resonance (MR) as the gold-standard...
